The Briarcliff Manor Union Free School District’s Briarcliff 2.0 initiative received the support of the state through $70,000 in aid, Superintendent of Schools James Kaishian announced.

“Briarcliff 2.0 is about teaching and learning,” he said. “It’s about transforming the classroom and creating a student experience that matches what the world is going to expect from our students as they leave here.”

Part of the initiative involves equipping each faculty member, administrator and student in grades four and above with personal devices. The state aid will fund an entire grade’s personal laptops/tablets.

Mr. Kaishian worked closely with Senator David Carlucci (D- Rockland/Westchester) in securing the aid.

“Sen. Carlucci has been very accessible as a public official and is very interested in trying to help,” he said. “He really listened and found a way to support this critical effort. Not only will the funds he secured be well spent, his willingness to better advocate for schools will be invaluable.”

Sen. Carlucci visited the district on Dec. 18 to learn more about how the funds will be used.

“Working together we have been able to provide critical funding to expand technological opportunities for our students at the Briarcliff school district,” he said. “This new technology will give our students the necessary tools they need to succeed in a 21st century economy.”

So far, the district has equipped faculty members and students in grades four and five with personal devices; and has plans to roll out devices to middle school and high= school students over the next couple of years.
