Dear Resident,
All the time citizens of the United States are presented with opportunities to volunteer their time to some cause or charity. It could be the Peace Corps under John F. Kennedy or the AmeriCorps under President Obama. Americans have always been attracted to causes greater than themselves and organizations that help people to empower themselves.
If you live in and around the Briarcliff Manor area I would like to introduce to you an option for community service. It is an American tradition that goes right back to before the founding of our nation. It is an organization founded by Benjamin Franklin. It is the Volunteer Fire Department. has been serving our community for over 100 years. One of our first firehouses is located right in the middle of town and is now the Patio Restaurant. The horse stables were located in the back but are gone now. The bell from that firehouse is located in front of our main firehouse today. The bell has been replaced by the sirens and the horses have been replaced by state of the art fire apparatus, BUT the tradition continues!

I am writing to you not for donations but for you personally. The Fire Department needs its residents to stand out from the crowd and commit to the community in a way that is so unique and so American. You will be coming to the aid of your neighbors at a time when they most need it. This is real hands-on community service and it will change your life for the better. You will be right in the middle of the action and making a difference in someone’s life! You can be really close to the emergency situation like being an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or you can be a driver of the apparatus. You decide on how close you want to get to the emergency situation. There is no pressure!
There is no cost to joining and you just have to be at least 16-years-old to be a junior member. You get fully certified as an ambulance-only member and/or as a New York State certified firefighter. All training and equipment is free and the time commitment is determined by you. There are tax, scholarship and social benefits for joining. It looks great on a college application and job resume. Our members are mothers, fathers, sons and daughters. We are made up of lawyers, general contractors, doctors, plumbers, money managers, electricians and senior corporate executives. We are you!

I am a second generation volunteer firefighter and I know from experience that you will find this kind of volunteering so fulfilling. I ask that you call me to discuss this opportunity and hear how you can help your community and truly make a difference.
Call me today at 914-941-0879 or email me at BMFDmembership@BMFD.org and we can set a meeting for a tour of the fire house and I can answer any question you may have.
Thank you for considering the Volunteer Fire Service and we look forward to hearing from you.
