Briarcliff Manor Police Blotter: $50K in Jewelry Stolen; Harassment Over Insurance Quote

The following information was supplied by the police departments. When arrests are noted, they do not indicate a conviction.

Here's a look at some of the incidents investigated by the  from October 3 — 9, 2011.

Sunday, Oct. 9

9:59 p.m. — Police received a call from a Cherry Hill Court resident who reported the home had been egged during the evening. The party stated it was an ongoing issue in the neighborhood and several other area homes had been egged the same night.

9:17 p.m. — A Birch Road resident called police and reported her son had not returned home after going to Manhattan the previous day. .

1:00 a.m. — Police performed a traffic stop on Elm Road after a driver was observed running a stop sign. When the officer asked the driver for her license, she stated she did not have it. The officer later determined the woman's license had two active suspensions. The suspect, a 19-year-old Briarcliff Manor resident, was placed under arrested, processed in headquarters and released on her own recognizance with a court date of October 26.

Saturday, Oct. 8

10:12 p.m. — A woman told police upon returning to her parked vehicle on Pleasantville Road after four hours, she noticed the passenger's side front window had been shattered. The woman said numerous items had been taken from the vehicle. Detective Matthew Doherty processed the scene and filed a report.

8:50 p.m. — Police responded to the scene of a single-car accident on Hirst Road near Long Hill Road. The car, driven by a 14-year-old male resident, crashed into a tree and backed into a telephone pole. .

Friday, Oct. 7

7:28 p.m — An Austin Place resident called police and reported a suspicious incident that had taken place earlier in the day. She said while she was driving along North State Road near the intersection of 9A, two Asian males banged on her window and stated they had just been in an accident and asked her to get out of the car. She stated they then tried to grab her keys before fleeing the scene. A report of the incident was filed.

Wednesday, Oct. 5

1:34 p.m. — A man called police to report an object had struck his car while he was in the vicinity of . Responding officers determined a golf hole cup had been thrown at the vehicle by a man who said he was attempting to get the driver's attention. The case remains open.

10:40 a.m. — An employee of Progressive Insurance reported he had been going over an estimate with a client who became upset, shoved his chest three times and made verbal threats. The man filed a supporting deposition in the matter. The suspect, a 46-year-old Carmel man, denied making physical contact and was released on his own recognizance with a court date of October 12.

10:04 a.m. — Police pulled over a vehicle in the northbound lanes of Route 9 after the license plate reader indicated the car had a suspended registration. Police determined the registration was suspended due to an insurance lapse and arrested the driver, a 42-year-old Tarrytown man. The vehicle was towed from the scene. Police also determined the man was on parole out of Peekskill and contacted the police department there.

Tuesday, Oct. 4

11:55 p.m. — Police stopped a vehicle after the license plate reader indicated a vehicle suspension on Pleasantville Road, near Wells Fargo Bank. The driver, a 53-year-old Mount Vernon woman was placed under arrest at the scene, processed at headquarters and released on her own recognizance. She is due in court on October 26.

3:08 p.m. — A woman told police she and her husband were not getting a long and he appeared at her workplace on South Highland Avenue. Police reported the man left without incident.

Monday, Oct. 3

8:15 a.m. — A Quinn Road resident reported several items had been removed from his vehicle—which was unlocked—overnight. He reported sunglasses, an iPod and tennis racquet were missing. Police filed a report.

8:10 a.m. — The responded to the Scarborough Metro North train station where the elevator was reportedly stuck with patrons inside. The elevator was fixed and no one was injured.

3:14 a.m. — An Oak Road resident called police and reported he heard a loud noise in the area. Police located a damaged vehicle on the street, where it appeared one of the windows had been shattered. The owner said his son typically drives the car and does not know who would damage the vehicle. Police canvassed the area and reported no other vehicles were damaged.

Tuesday, Oct. 4 — A Hardscrabble Road residence was allegedly burglarized during the day. An estimated $50,000 in jewelry was reported missing from the home.
