Congratulations to Briarcliff High School’s Anastasia Friedland, one of 10 New York State high school seniors named a U.S. Presidential Scholar finalist by Education Commissioner John B. King.
“This prestigious award recognizes students for their accomplishments in academics or the arts,” said King. “All of these nominees have demonstrated exceptional academic success and artistic excellence. They are truly the best New York has to offer.”

New York State Assemblywoman Sandy Galef nominated Friedland for the honor.
“I am thrilled that Anastasia Friedland has been recognized by Commissioner King’s office as one of five young women and five young men moving on to the national level to be considered for the Presidential Scholars Award,” said Galef. “Anastasia has a unique story of overcoming many hardships and yet persevering to meet and surpass expectations and maintain a high academic average. [She does this] as she pursues her dreams, all while continuing to give back to her community. She is very deserving of this recognition, and I wish her all the best in the next round of decision-making.”

Briarcliff High School Principal Debora French praised Friedland’s passion.
“Anastasia Friedland is insightful and analytical in sociopolitical and economic issues, most specifically in the area of women’s rights and equality,” French said. “She has taken an active approach in researching legislation that promotes the health and economic equality of women. Anastasia’s nomination as a Presidential Scholar finalist is recognition of her sincere efforts for women and their families.”
The U.S. Presidential Scholars Program, established in 1964, offers its honorees an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. in June for a White House medallion ceremony.
“The Briarcliff High School community congratulates Anastasia on this prestigious nomination,” said French
