GREENSBURG, Pa.- Thomas Earl (North Babylon, NY/St. Anthony’s) tallied two goals and one assist as the Setters fell to #8 Seton Hill 15-5. The Setters fall to 1-1 overall, while Seton Hill improves to 3-2 on the season.

Seton Hill netted 10 goals in the first half, while Pace scored a pair of goals. Tommy Gilmore (Ridge, NY/Longwood) scored in the first quarter off an assist by Matt Mirabito (Binghamton, NY/Broome CC). Earl netted a goal in the final seconds of the second quarter as the Setters trailed 10-2 at the half.

In the third quarter, Seton Hill added five goals as John Kolesar (Warwick, NY/Warwick) scored with an assist from Mirabito late in the third quarter. The Setters added a pair of goals in the fourth as Earl scored unassisted, while Earl also recorded an assist on a goal by William Scioscia (Somerset, NJ/Immaculata).

In net, Kevin Grady (Medford, NY/Bellport) played all 60 minutes as he recorded 10 saves in the game.

The Setters return to action on Saturday, March 17 when they will travel to Old Westbury, NY to take on New York Tech in non-conference action at 1 pm.


Setters Split Twin Bill With Chowan

MURFREESBORO, N.C.- The Setters dropped their first softball game of the season as they split a doubleheader with Chowan University. Pace took the opener 3-2, but the Hawks took the nightcap 3-1. Pace moves their record to 7-1 on the season, while the Hawks are now 10-16 overall.

Chowan struck in the opening inning as they pushed across a run to take a 1-0 lead. The Setters rallied in the second as Rachael McMahon (Corona, CA/Esperanza) hit a sacrifice fly to knot the game at one. Pace took the lead in the fourth as Samantha Garcia (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Rancho Cucamonga)walked to lead off the inning, while McMahon singled to put runners at first and second. 

Jeane Drury (Flanders, NJ/Morris Catholic) doubled in Garcia and McMahon to put the Setters up 3-1. The Hawks added a run in the fifth inning but Setters’ starter Caitlin McCann (San Mateo, CA/Notre Dame) closed the door on Chowan as Pace held on for the win. McCann (3-0) stayed perfect on the season as she tossed a complete game, allowing two runs on six hits.

In the nightcap, the Setters got their lone run of the game on the third on a solo homerun by senior Lauren Bell (New Windsor, NY/Newburgh Free) as Pace took a 1-0 lead. Chowan took the lead with two runs in the fifth and added a run in the sixth as the Hawks handed the Setters their first loss of the season. Chelsea Shea (Babylon, NY/West Babylon) fell to 1-1 on the season as she tossed a complete game, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and struck out four.

The Setters are back in action on Friday, March 16 when they will travel to Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA for a doubleheader starting at 1 pm.


Baseball Comes Up Short To Rollins in Extra Innings

WINTER PARK, Fla.- The Setters came up short to Rollins College 4-3 in extra innings as Pace dropped their record to 5-5 on the season. Rollins improved to 15-6 on the season.

The Tars took an early lead in the opening inning as they took a 1-0 but the Setters rallied in the second. Pace tied the game as Brandon Martineson (Warwick, NY/Warwick) doubled and later scored on an RBI single by Charlie Galasso (West Harrison, NY/Harrison) to tie the game at one.

Pace took the lead in the fourth as Martineson blasted a solo homerun and the Setters added a run in the fifth. Galasso doubled to start the inning, moved to third on a sac bunt and scored on a squeeze bunt by Bobby Horn (Stamford, CT/Westhill).

Rollins chipped away as they scored a run in the fifth to slice the score to 3-2 and rallied in the ninth with a run to force extra innings. In the tenth, Rollins loaded the bases and pushed across the game-winning run to down the Setters.

On the hill for Pace, Neil Pezzullo (Harwich, MA/Harwich) got the start, tossing 4 1/3 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits, while striking out four. Jonathan Hornung (Calverton, NY/Riverhead) pitched five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits as his record falls to 0-1 on the season.
