Men’s Swimming Finish Strong on Final Day of Northeast-10 Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn.-Kevin Dickson (Coldingham,Scotland/Wallace) finished tied for second place in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 47.48 on the final day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships. The Setters finished the NE-10 Championships in seventh place with 161.1 points, while Southern Connecticut won the NE-10 Championships with a final score of 934.

Matt McCann (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury) also swam in the 100-yard freestyle and he finished in tenth place with a time of 49.31. McCann went on to swim in the 200-yard butterfly as he finished in 11th place with a time of 2:07.03. Nick Targonski (Trumbull, CT/Trumbull) posted a solid performance in the 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:19.54 as he came in 13th place. In the 400-freestyle relay, the quartet of Dickson, McCann, William King (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) and Targonski finished in sixth place with a time of 3:22.73.

Women’s Swimming Finish in Fifth Place On Final Day of Northeast-10 Championships

NEW HAVEN, Conn.-Georgie Goulding (Wellington, New Zealand/Wellington) led the Setters on the final day of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships as she took second place in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.65. Pace finished in fifth place with 338 points, while Southern Connecticut won the event with 965 points.

Pace had a trio of swimmers that qualified for the finals in the 100-yard freestyle as Alexis Chocianowski (Cambria Heights, NY/Mary Louis Academy) came in ninth place with a time of 55.35. Maria Montefusco (Levittown, NY) came in tenth place with a time of 56.09, while Alicia Holzer (Cromwell, CT/Cromwell) placed 16th with a time of 57.44.

In the 1650-yard freestyle, Jordan Beberman (Sharon, MA/Sharon) swam a time of 18:52.86, finishing in 11th place, while Hannah Oleksak (Blandford, MA/Williston Northampton) came in 16th place with a time of 19:19.82. In the 3-meter diving event, Cassandra Gentile (Cortland Manor, NY/Walter Panas) finished in second place as she earned a score of 396.23. Freshman Maria-Vitoria Bernardes (Monroe, NY/Monroe-Woodbury)came in tenth place with a score of 320.05.

The Setters also finished sixth in the 400-yard freestyle relay as the quartet of Kaitlyn Lynch (Vallejo, CA/Solano C.C.), Montefusco, Goulding and Holzer posted a time of 3:43.27.


Boys youth hoops

Briarcliff continued its red-hot winter by improving to 11-1 with a 30-28 triumph against Armonk in the boys sixth grade A division of the Tri-County Basketball League on Feb. 5.
