"My Biggest Bah Humbug This Year"

Problem with United Postal Service

My biggest Bah Humbug this holiday season turned out unfortunately to be from the Briarcliff Manor Post Office. On December 9th, before heading to work, I went to my local UPS store that I have used for many, many years without issue. I paid for postage with my credit card for 28 domestic regular mail and 4 international mail for customers, clients, family and friends. I am told 3:30pm that day the Briarcliff Manor Post Office picked up my 32 pieces of mail from UPS. I have a perfectly clear timeline up until then.

As the holidays unfolded and I received holiday greetings, I would ask two family members in County Carlow and County Tipperary in Ireland, "Have you received my holiday mail?" They had not. In speaking to a former elderly neighbor who lives in Garden City Long Island now, I asked her the same question. She replied no she had not. I checked with a neighbor in my 10510 zip code who had the same reply. I spoke with a childhood friend in Branchburg New Jersey, she had not received my holiday mailing. I checked with my 79 year old mother in Clearwater Florida and she had not received it either. The last two were customers in New Rochelle who also have not received it.

I am dumbfounded. Isn't it a felony to intercept mail? I reported the loss of the 32 pieces of mail to the Briarcliff Manor Post Office in person and by e-mail in a claim. I escalated it to the Post Master General but was sent a how was our service survey. I was told by phone there was not much they could do. When one has a perfect timeline provided to him/her, why not proceed with a little professional accountability and research to follow up on this. I am saddened the biggest holiday issue was not a long line or a recipe gone afoul, but the loss of 32 holiday wishes which will never be received by the ones who care and matter the most to me.
