Overtime Win in Home Opener for Pace Football

Setters had a 23-20 victory at home yesterday.

The 's football team was victorious in yesterday's home opener against Stonehill College.

The Setters (1-1) defeated the Skyhawks (1-1) in a 23-20 overtime game at the Pleasantville campus.

Ali Mourtada of the Setters was the first to score a 35-yard field goal in the first quarter.

The Setters went into the second quarter down 7-3 after a kickoff with an 88-yard return by Stonehill's Stephan Neville.

By halftime, Pace closed the gap and were down 7-6, after Mourtada's 44-yard field goal, but by the end of the third quarter, Pace led 14-13, thanks to a 53-yard scoring strike by Anthony Upshaw. Jordan Raynor then connected with Cameron Davis for a two-point conversion, before a field goal by the Skyhawks closed the gap.

In the fourth quarter, a touchdown by Pace's Eshawn Armonstrong brought the lead to 20-13, but the Skyhawks answered with a touchdown of their own with just 2:41 remaining in the game.

Pace won in overtime with Mourtada's third field goal of the game, bringing the final score to 23-20.

According to a statement from Pace University, "Raynor was 22-for-41 for 275 and one touchdown, while Davis finished with six catches for 101 yards. Armstrong had a productive day on the ground with 70 yards and one touchdown. On the defensive side, David Lopez led the defense with 15 tackles."

Next Saturday, Sept. 17, the Setters travel to Merrimack College for a conference match at 1 p.m.
