Men’s Tennis Wins Second in a Row; Down Assumption 6-3

, N.Y.- The Setters won their second match in a row as they defeated the Greyhounds of Assumption College 6-3 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace improves to 2-7 overall and 1-6 in the NE-10, while the Greyhounds fall to 1-8 and 0-6 in conference play.
The Setters won four of the six singles matches as Michael Metesan (Wappingers Falls, NY/Kent) won 6-3, 6-1 at #1 singles and Khari Linton (New York, NY/Beacon) rolled at #3 singles 6-2, 6-1. Mattia Pastore (Milan, Italy/Boca Prep) took the win at #4 singles 6-2, 6-3, while Brett Ringelheim (Atlantic Beach, NY/Lawrence) won at #5 singles 6-2, 7-6 (11-9).

In doubles play, Metesen and Linton won at #1 doubles 8-2, while Pastore Ringelheim won at #2 doubles 8-4.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, March 24, when they will travel to Manchester, NH for a Northeast-10 Conference match against Saint Anselm College at 3 pm.
Women’s Tennis Falls to Assumption
BRIARCLIFF, N.Y.- The women's tennis team fell to Assumption College in 7-2 in Northeast-10 Conference action. Pace falls to 0-7 overall and 0-7 in the Northeast 10, while Greyhounds improve to 4-8 and 1-3 in conference play.
The Setters lone victory in singles play came at #5 flight as Danielle Gore (Queens, NY/Immaculate Conception) won 6-3, 6-4. In double play, the duo of SimonaMrazova (Bratislava, Slovakia/QSI International) and Liz Plakhotnaya (Rocky Hill, CT/Rocky Hill) won at #1 doubles 8-3.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, March 24, when they will travel to Manchester, NH for a Northeast-10 Conference match against Saint Anselm College at 3 pm.
Lacrosse Comes Up Short To #10 NYIT
OLD WESTBURY, N.Y.- Matt Gebhardt (West Islip, NY/West Islip) scored four goals but the Setters came up short to the Bears of NYIT, who are ranked #10 in the nation. The Setters fall to 1-2 overall, while the Bears improve to 6-2 on the season.
The Setters struck first as Gebhardt scored the first goal of the game as Pace was a man-down. NYIT scored the next two goals but Tom Murphy (Yonkers, NY/Hastings) tied the score at two. The Bears scored a late goal as they led 3-2 after the first quarter.
NYIT continued their goal streak into the second quarter as they netted three goals to start the quarter. The Setters rallied as they scored three unanswered goals as Gebhardt scored twice off assists by John Kolesar (Warwick, NY/Warwick) and Taylor Belviso (Malverne, NY/St. Mary’s). Matt Mirabito (Binghamton, NY/Broome CC) scored a man-up goal off a Kolesar assists with 1:20 left in the quarter to pull the Setters to within one goal at 6-5 at halftime.
The Bears outscored the Setters in the third quarter 4-1 as Kevin Kadlick (Boston, MA/Catholic Memorial) netted the lone goal for Pace in the quarter. The Setters trailed 10-6 after three quarters.
NYIT scored four of the first five goals of the final quarter as Ryan Valdez (Huntington, NY/John Glenn) broke up the NYIT run. Gebhardt scored off a Kolesar assist to pull the Setters to within 14-8 but Pace could not close the gap down the stretch despite a man-up goal by Thomas Earl (North Babylon, NY/St. Anthony’s).
In net, Kevin Grady (Medford, NY/Bellport) recorded six saves in 58+ minutes to drop his record to 1-2 on the season.
The Setters return to action on Saturday, March 24 when they will travel to Waltham, MA for their Northeast-10 Conference opener against Bentley University at 1 pm.
