Pleasantville Receives Top Award for Traffic Safety
Village receives nod for 36 years without pedestrian fatality.

The walking village of Pleasantville has been recognized for its superior traffic safety practices by AAA.
As part of the Community Traffic Safety Awards Program (CTSAP), Pleasantville was honored with the top Platinum Award for its "outstanding success in addressing local traffic safety issues," according to a statement from AAA.
CTSAP awards are handed out for work in the areas of pedestrians, bicycles, school buses, senior safety, education, DWI and seatbelt enforcement, roadway project safety and emergency response efforts.

Pleasantville Police Chief Richard Love accepted the Platinum Award plaque at AAA's annual luncheon last week.
"The village was one of four Platinum award winners," AAA revealed, along with White Plains, Garden City and Port Washington in Nassau County.

“We are delighted to recognize the vital and life-saving work that is being done by Pleasantville and other award winners,” said AAA New York Assistant Director of Traffic Safety Donna Galasso.
Police report the village has not had a pedestrian fatality in 36 years and no pedestrian injuries on record for more than five years, which earned Pleasantville a Pedestrian Safety Commendation Award.
The village was also recognized for having "a seatbelt usage rate of nearly 100 percent."
AAA also applauded the village's Seatbelt Enforcement Program, Pedestrian Safety Program and Safe Routes to School program.
