A Bronx boy is accused of stealing a sport utility vehicle in Peekskill, leading police on a chase through several jurisdictions then then crashing it in New Castle, state police claim.
Yorky Santana, 17, is alleged on Monday afternoon to have met the seller of the vehicle, a white 2007 Range Rover, just outside of the Peekskill train station, state police Investigator Sean Morgan said. Santana is then accused of driving off with the SUV, and state police were notified within minutes, at 4:06 p.m., after the matter was reported to Peekskill police.

In his path, Santana is alleged to have driven south on Route 9 through Cortlandt before heading onto Route 9A in Ossining. He is then accused of driving through the Ossining armory complex and then crashing a gate to get back onto 9A. After that, he briefly went onto Route 100 before making a U-turn to get back onto 9A, Morgan said, before heading onto North State Road in Briarcliff Manor.
The saga ended when the vehicle crashed into a telephone pole on the New Castle side of North State, near the Route 100 intersection, Morgan explained, just south of downtown Millwood. Both the vehicle and the pole were damaged, and Santana was taken to Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla as a precaution, Morgan said. There were no injuries among police or civilians.
The drive included several jurisdictions, according to Morgan: Peekskill, Cortlandt, Croton-on-Hudson, the Town of Ossining, the Village of Ossining, Briarcliff Manor and New Castle. Police from Westchester County, Croton, Ossining village, Briarcliff and New Castle provided mutual aid. The Millwood Fire Department and the Ossining Volunteer Ambulance Corps (OVAC) were at the scene of the crash, according to Morgan.
Santana is alleged to have driven as much as over 90 miles per hour, Morgan said.
"He was driving very recklessly," Morgan stated.
Santana is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday in Cortlandt's town court, on a felony count of criminal possession of stolen property. The jurisdiction was picked because the town is where the chase began, Morgan explained, although the charge for the arraingment is unlikely to be the only one he will face.
Santana could potentially face charges in each municipality that he drove through, according to Morgan.
Note: Arrests do not indicate convictions.
