UPDATE: Mrs. Green's Markets Reverses Expansion Plans, Closes Stores
The Larchmont-based natural food grocery chain will concentrate on the Northeast market, its CEO said.

LARCHMONT, NY — Mrs. Green's Natural Market has closed four stores and is not stocking shelves at its other locations, most of which are in the Hudson Valley.
According to Supermarket News, which posited a financial crisis, the chain's parent company, Natural Markets Food Group, acknowledged challenges but said the supply shortages and the store closures were not related.
Only 18 months after Mrs. Green's announced that it was opening its 17th and 18th stores far away from its Westchester home—in West Windsor, New Jersey, in Ontario, the Irvington-based company is apparently rolling back its expansion plans to open 20 new locations in the Northeast and Midwest United States and in Canada with a long-term goal of 100 stores. The company opened its first Mrs. Green's Natural Market in 1990 in Scarsdale.

The company closed two stores in Illinois and the one in West Windsor. Company officials said the New Canaan, Connecticut store, which also closed, would reopen in six months. The Chicago store closed six months ago and the Katonah and Mahopac stores closed in 2015.
It will provide employees with severance packages, health care, and assistance transitioning to a new local opportunity, a company spokesman said.

Hudson Valley stores are not closing, and the company has posted signs in the front of each store apologizing for the supply challenges. Leadership is working hard to solve the issue and a company spokesman said it should be over very soon.
