SPCA Enforcement Arrests Yonkers Man for Alleged Dog Fighting

An anonymous tip last month led to the arrest of an Yonkers man for animal cruelty, the said today.

Louis Urias, of 87 North Broadway, faces five animal cruelty charges after Enrest Lungaro, SPCA's Humane Law Enforcement Division director, completed an investigation.

According to a statement from the SPCA, the anonymous caller in October reported Urias "was keeping pit bulls at his home for the purpose of dog fighting."

Lungaro reported finding "four pit bulls in cages at the address as well as equipment frequently used to train dogs for fighting, including a treadmill, a spring poll and weighted collars."

Urias was formally arrested yesterday, November 21.

Last week, Lungaro took a male pit bull from the residence, which was taken to the SPCA in Briarcliff Manor for examination.

"SPCA Veterinarian Megan Caulfield reported that the dog was severely dehydrated and emaciated and had muscle atrophy likely the result of being kept in a small cage," the statement said. "The dog also had scarring on its head, torso and limbs consistent with dog fighting wombs."

Yesterday, the other three dogs were taken from the home.
