WELCOME BACK
This week the Pleasantville Farmers Market sees a return of spring-like weather, and sought after vendors. Madura Farms reports that asparagus and rhubarb have finally arrived. Little Seed Gardens returns tomorrow with green garlic bunches (great for pesto or green garlic butter), baby arugula, spinach pea shoots, radish shoots, sunflower shoots, a spring salad mixture, lovely shallots and if time allows, some wild ramps as well. Shawangunk Growers will be out front for the first time this year with a wide selection of hardy perennials and bulbs, grown here in the Hudson Valley for your Hudson Valley garden. Come early to find mom a rare, native, or new plant for her beds. Also, as a special visit we also welcome back Living Edge Designs with their wonderful culinary woodwork items (summary and image below). To review all vendors in attendance at tomorrow's Market check our up-to-date, interactive
Map of the Market.
Visit by Rory Chase of Amazing Real Live Foods
and introduction of Jack Peele of NEW Jarcuterie
Rory Chase, of Amazing Real Live Foods, has a lot to offer in the wonderful cheeses he crafts. Tomorrow he will visit himself to share time with shoppers, speak about his farm and cheesemaking, and also to introduce Jack Peele of Jarcuterie. Beginning this week, Jack's hand crafted dried sausages will be available through Amazing Real Live Foods. Rory and Jack will have plenty of samples so you can learn about cheese and artisan charcuterie the right way: by taste.
Chamber News:
The Market congratulates Matt Jaros and Emily Wong on receiving the Pleasantville Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year Award. Their business Glass Onion Originals deserves the praise for helping to beautify our Village, and our homes, with their artistic selection of merchandise.
Cluck!
Two sources for fresh whole chickens tomorrow: Cowberry Crossing Farm will have fresh organic chicken, and Yellow Bell Farm will have nicely sized 2-3 lb fresh birds as well.
One Week Only:
Living Edge Designs
Handcrafted, from tree to table, each cutting board is as beautiful and regional as the farmers market foods cut upon it. Their serving platters, cutting boards, and bread peals will be brought to the Market just this one Saturday this spring. Learn about Living Edge Designs by clicking here, and stop by tomorrow to have a look, especially if you are still thinking about what to get mom for Mother's Day!
THE EDIBLE SPECTRUM: May 8th
Join Foodchester and photographer Chad David Kraus at the opening of The Edible Spectrum, a collection of photographs highlighting the produce and products of the Pleasantville Farmers Market. A reception will be held Thursday, May 8th, from 7:00pm - 9:00pm at the Black Cow Coffee Company, located at 7 Wheeler Avenue, Pleasantville, NY 10570.
Photographer Chad David Kraus is known for capturing the stories, truths, and emotions of weddings, bar and bat mitzvahs, and other indelible moments. In The Edible Spectrum, Chad showcases the little stories and truths evident in the produce and products of the Pleasantville Farmers Market. Curated and grouped by color, Chad's photos reveal how even similarly hued fruits and vegetables clamor for attention with wondrous variety, patterns and textures, and reaffirm our connection to the land and the people who provide the food that nourishes our lives.
More Ways to
Support the Market
In addition to supporting our farms as a shopper, please consider one of these programs as a way to contribute to the Market:
Friends of the Market
When individuals and families approach us asking to make a donation to the Market we direct them to this program which accepts donations of $40 or more. If you would like to contribute in this manner, stop by our Manager's Table at the Market, where our high school interns can assist you. And they will provide you with a beautiful and practical Market Canvas Tote Bag as a token of our appreciation.
Business Supporters Program
Support of the Market by area businesses is gratefully acknowledged through our Business Supporter Program. Supporters are listed on our Kiosk at the Market, on our website with live links, and in our social media efforts. If you have a local business we encourage you to become a Supporter, so we may highlight your business to visitors of the Market. We're proud to provide exposure for area businesses and organizations, which make Pleasantville such a great place to live and shop. View our Supporters page to see current Business Supporters, and use the email link there to contact Steven Bates, the Market's Executive Director, if you would like to have your business join the program.
