Bomb Threat Against Village Citing 'Allah' Is Disgruntled Man, Police Say
Officials took the initial message seriously and traced it back to Uruguay, but after an investigation police say the e-mail is an empty threat.
An e-mail bomb threat against Port Chester is the work of a disgruntled man who formerly lived in Port Chester, police said Tuesday.
On Sunday, the village clerk received an e-mail that read: "There's going to be a bomb near the Post Office real soon. Allah is great."
The message was brought to Port Chester police, who worked with the High Technology Crime Bureau at the Westchester County District Attorney's Office to trace the threat to Uruguay, where the disgruntled man now lives, Lt. James Ladeairous said.

Networking experts at the bureau were able to traceroute the message, while Port Chester police used process of elimination to identify the suspect, who had lived and worked in the area and was upset with local officials before he returned to his native Uruguay.
"There's nothing real to it," Ladeairous said.

The message was sent through a contact form on the village's website, but police said the suspect has no connections to Islamic fundamentalist groups and included the Allah reference in an attempt to scare local officials.
Unable to find an option for "terrorist threats" in the drop-down menu on the village website's contact form, the man chose "Voter Registration - Election Questions" as the category for his threat, police said.
Police said it's unlikely the man will be arrested; in cases ranging from identity theft to intellectual property theft, U.S. law enforcement has had difficulty getting other nations to cooperate with matters of local jurisdiction.
