Two day workshop with artist Arnie Zimmerman.
In the way a writer uses letters to make words to be placed in a sentence and then paragraphs, Zimmerman will share how he uses clay to make parts that he joins to create a three dimensional narrative. Zimmerman will demonstrate how he uses shifts in scale, surface treatment, and a sense of place as well as the use of memory, dreams or observations from daily life to imbue his three dimensional forms with thoughts and feelings. Students will observe how he uses hollow forms, such as tubes, spheres and slab-built geometric volumes, to create his structures, and how he brings them to life with expressive small figures. Arnie will give the students at least one hands-on exercise, which will provide the students with the opportunity to try Arnie's unique working techniques.
