Ousted Democratic Port Chester Trustees Back in Office, for Now

Their status as elected officials is tenuous.

PORT CHESTER, NY - A state law dealing with vacancies allowed three Port Chester trustees who were removed from office on a technicality to return to their old jobs—temporarily.

Three Democratic trustees failed to sign their oaths of office within a month of taking office and were ousted May 19, 2016, even though one Republican trustee was prompted to sign his by the village clerk.

The village’s attorney said that the law stated that when a vacancy occurs such as this, the previous office holder can be held over, according to lohud.com.
