Paid Firefighters Cut in Port Chester
The trustees voted to eliminate the personnel for budgetary reasons.

PORT CHESTER, NY - In a tax-saving move, the Village of Port Chester trustees voted to eliminate the paid fire department Monday.
An attorney for the eight career firefighters said they are on administrative leave, but it is unknown whether it’s paid or unpaid leave, according to the Journal News.

The preliminary budget for 2016-17 had a $600,000 line item for the positions.
The Journal News said there was going to be a rally at 1 p.m. outside the village hall to protest the decision.
