Port Chester High School Student Sofia Huyhua Wins Award
The senior won a 2015 Hispanic Heritage Youth Award.
Port Chester High School senior Sofia Huyhua is a 2015 winner of an Hispanic Heritage Youth Award, the school announced.
The honor is a 2015 Silver Award/New York Region in the Sports Category, and she will be recognized at a ceremony at Macy’s Herald Square on Wednesday, November 11. The Hispanic Heritage Foundation Youth Awards honor Latino high school seniors who excel in both the classroom and community.
“Sofia is a hard-working student who, in addition to her class work, is a member of the PCHS track and cross country teams and is an Anthony Foust community service mentor,” said school officials in a statement. “She also is active in the Spanish Club, the Italian Club, and the Environmental Club. She plans to pursue a career in physical therapy.”

The Hispanic Youth Awards is an educational grant program for college-bound students. This is the 17th year of awarding cash grants. About 10,000 applications are collected each year from qualified college juniors. To win an award, students must have an average GPS of 3.0 or higher and plan to attend college the year after high school graduation.
