Port Chester HS Senior Honored With A Seat In The All-State Symphony

PORT CHESTER, NY — A talented Port Chester High School student is making beautiful music and putting the warm glow of the spotlight on his school.

Senior Ben Reyes has been selected to perform with the 2022 NYS School Music Association’s All-State Symphony Orchestra in December.

Selected through a highly competitive audition, Reyes is among approximately 900 of the state's finest high school musicians. More than 6,500 students from across NYS auditioned for the music festival at various solo and ensemble festivals this past spring.

"We are so proud of Ben and his accomplishment," Supervisor of Fine and Performing Arts Katherine Sinsabaugh said. "Being selected as a violinist to perform at NYSSMA All-State, which is incredibly competitive, is a huge honor for Ben and our district. We are thrilled that Ben has been chosen to represent our school, music department and community at NYSSMA."

The four-day NYSSMA Conference All-State Festival will take place at the Rochester Convention Center, from Dec. 1-4. The event will culminate with a concert at the Eastman School of Music, where Reyes will perform with the Symphony Orchestra.

Besides being a superior violinist, Reyes is also a standout student. He is a member of Mu Alpha and the English, National and Tri-M Music honor societies, and was selected to participate in the prestigious Hoff-Barthelson Music School Honors Program. Reyes is concertmaster of Port Chester High School’s orchestra and co-concertmaster of the Hoff-Barthelson Festival Orchestra. In addition, he performs with a chamber quintet ensemble and was recently awarded honorable mention at the Greenwich Symphony Orchestra’s Teen Talent competition.
