Port Chester Man Faces Felony Drunk Driving Charge for Having Child in Car

Police said he was stopped for driving erratically.

PORT CHESTER, NY — State Police in Columbia County arrested a Port Chester man who they said was driving drunk with a child in his car.

Elio E. Ortega, 30, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated under Leandra's Law, a felony.

Police said he was driving his Honda Civic Ortega on Stevers Crossing Road in Claverack and was pulled over for failing to stay in his lane and not using a turn signal.

An investigation found Ortega was intoxicated and had a 3-year-old girl unsecured in the backseat.

He supplied a breath sample that revealed a 0.08 percent blood alcohol content.

Ortega was arraigned in the Town of Claverack Court and sent to Columbia County Jail on $500 cash bail.
