Port Chester Police: FL Man Arrested Twice in One Day

He's accused of shoplifting, then cited for driving without a license.

Port Chester police say a Florida man was arrested twice in the village on Saturday, first after he was accused of shoplifting and later on a charge that he was driving without a license.

Felix Maldonado, 41, of Miami Beach, was charged with petty larceny at about 12:40 p.m. on Saturday after workers at the store complained that Maldonado took two bath facets valued at a total of $297 from the store without paying for the items.

Maldonado was taken to Port Chester police headquarters, where police said he complained of chest pains. Police said they allowed Maldonado to post $400 bail and they called an ambulance so he could get medical attention.

However, when Maldonado was released to the ambulance crew and was taken from the police station, Maldonado then told the crew he was feeling better and he did not need to go to the hospital.

Maldonado signed paperwork stating he did not wish medical attention and left the ambulance. The ambulance crew alerted police that Maldonado had refused medical attention when he got outside the police station.

During the shoplifting investigation, police said they learned that Maldonado did not have a valid driver's license. When Maldonado left the ambulance, police said they suspect he might return to the Home Depot parking lot.

At about 3 p.m., a village police officer spotted Maldonado driving a car from the Home Depot lot. Maldonado was stopped and he was arrested again, this time on a charge of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, police said.

Maldonado faces a hearing in Port Chester Village Court.
