Port Chester, Rye Brook Come to Interim Agreement Over Firefighter Services

The two municipalities had turned to a mediator because of their dispute.

PORT CHESTER, NY — The villages of Port Chester and Rye Brook have struck an interim agreement over a legal dispute about shared fire services.

Among the agreed-upon terms are Port Chester paying for firefighters to cover Rye Brook’s overnight shifts and the overtime costs Rye Brook has accumulated for staffing in May, the Journal News said.

The Port Chester village board voted to get rid of all paid firefighter positions May 2, leading the Rye Board village board to sue over breach of contract.

The two municipalities had an agreement that required Port Chester to provide professional firefighter services during the overnight shift at the Rye Brook firehouse.
