TANDOORI, a Food, an Oven and now a Great Place to Eat

Indian food can come with a few things that cloud your nostrils, burn your throat or cramp your style. Not at Tandoori.

In my experience, Indian food can come with a few things: a general stink that can permeate the room so awfully that it can cloud your nostrils all the way home; 10 waiters who have no interest in bringing you another water to help with the fact that you ordered the vindaloo because it sounded cool; a dining room so cramped that the only meat in your sagg paneer is your neighbor's elbow; or a ferocious indigestion.

Tandoori has none of these. 

I brought my brother Alan out to help me review this establishment, and it helped that he eats Indian at least twice a week.  We were surprised with the available parking right outside and the clean spacious dining room.  We were seated immediately and our waiter, Ming, brought us drinks.

Ming was very informative, recommending his favorite dishes, and warning me against the vindaloo--thanks, bud! I have tried vidaloo before and while some may like it, it is a heat I would not wish upon my worst enemy. 

We started off with samosas, a favorite of mine -- three lamb and three vegetable. They arrived piping hot and deliciously spicy. We coupled these with some alu paratha, a stuffed flatbread with potatoes and spicy peas which was not greasy at all and had an even filling which was a pleasant surprise to my brother, who had become jaded about flimsy Indian breads.

For our main course Alan ordered chicken dahiwala, chicken in a spicy yoghurt sauce, and I had the lamb rogan josh, perfectly cooked lamb in spicy gravy. They both arrived promptly with a nice sized bowl of fragrant rice and an order of garlic naan.  Both were delicious; although Alan declared the lamb was too spicy for him I thought it was just right.  The naan was the perfect addition to the heat of both dishes, and we both ate with gusto. As the meal came to an end, Ming offered us dessert, and I ruefully decided against the mango lassi that I so desired.

Appetizers, entrees, two breads, and two sodas brought the bill to $64, which at roughly $30 per person, eating well, is pretty good especially with the level of food quality displayed.

This place gets an 8/10 rating, with great service, great food and a decent price tag. Next time I'll bring the entire family.
