Thieves Target Items Stored for Recycling at Port Chester Supermarket

Police: On-going problem at Waterfront Place store.

Items being stored for recycling at a Port Chester supermarket are being targeted by thieves who want to redeem the material for cash themselves, according to Port Chester police.

In the latest incident that's part of an ongoing problem, police said a worker at the at 25 Waterfront Place went to investigate an alarm sounding at the store at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and discovered a man leaving recycling storage room with a bag.

Police said the bag contained material stored in the room for recycling. The value of the material was uncertain.

The room was entered by prying open a door, police said, noting that the store has had other similar thefts recently.

No arrest has been made in the thefts.
