Mather Hospital Seeks Volunteers to Act as Hosts for Patients and Visitors, Work in Various Departments

Mather Hospital is looking for individuals to join its corps of volunteers and help continue our tradition of delivering compassionate patient care.
Volunteers are needed to act as hosts, accompanying visitors to their destinations throughout the hospital. Volunteers are also sought to work in our laboratory, the Wound Care Center in Port Jefferson and other departments. Individuals interested in volunteering should have a positive attitude and enjoy helping others.
Volunteers have been an important part of Mather for more than 50 years. Mather Hospital relies on the generosity of these individuals who are willing donate their time, skills and compassion to enhance the care provided to our patients.

The benefits of volunteering are well documented. It helps individuals feel needed and valued, enables them to meet new people, increases social and relationship skills, and builds self-esteem and self confidence. Volunteering is also good for your health, particularly for older adults. Studies have found that those who volunteer have a lower mortality rate than those who do not, even when considering factors such as the volunteer’s health.
Younger volunteers can gain valuable work experience and learn how to deal with customers. Older volunteers find it a gratifying way to remain active after retirement and give back to their community. Families who volunteer together teach children the value of helping others and bringing about positive change. And all volunteers can have a significant impact on their community, helping to make it a better place.
