Bluegrass Flourishes by the Sea

On Wednnesday evening, under a setting sun with balmy breezes coming in off the Sound, the village was treated to a spectacular concert given by the Blue Grass band, Eastbound Freight with Bill Christopherson. The band features mandolin player John Brisotti, banjo player, Bill Deturk, bassist Bruce Harvey, Dave Thomson on guitar, and critically acclaimed Bill Christopherson on the fiddle.

A well seasoned and accomplished group of musicians assembled from the Metropolitan area, Eatbound Freight's vocal harmonies, fiddle solos, and banjo riffs were as close to a down home, country "ho -down" as it gets short of going south and west of the Mississippi. Songs like "Working on the road Tall Pines, Coal Tattoo, and Wheel Hass, provided excellent examples of the instrumental and vocal skills these musiciams possess.

The acoustic sound created from a fiddle, a mandolina stand up bass, a rhythm guitar and a banjo were rich,sharp, and varied, providing for an evening of folk lore, gospel, and back country bluegrass music at a very complex and refined level.

It was both an honor and a pleasure to see this group of musical artists in such an inimate and pastoral setting. Once again, the Harbor Side concert series has done a rmarkable job of bringing quality musicians to our little village by the sea.
