Port Jefferson Students Invade Authors Unlimited

Middle School and High School students discuss the books and authors who attended this years Authors Unlimited event.

In honor of the 2nd annual Author's Unlimited, a free event that connects teens with literature, the PJFL Teen Department and the PJ Middle School/High School hosted lunch time book discussions to celebrate the authors who attended! Port Jefferson School Librarian Mary LaSita and Port Jefferson Young Adult Librarians Erin Schaarschmidt, Colleen Cheshire and Monica Williams brought together this wonderful event that allowed local teens to experience the literature written by the authors who starred in this year's Authors Unlimited.

The High School Book discussion which took place on Tuesday, April24th, featured pizza, sweet treats, book discussions with the librarians and a Skype session with author Paul Griffin.  The teens had the opportunity to ask Mr. Griffin any question they wanted.  Some asked about the inspiration behind his stories, what his favorite YA book is, and what life is like being an author.  He was more than gracious to share his stories and the secrets to being a YA author.

Check out Paul Griffin's latest novel, Stay with Me.

The Middle School book discussion took place on Friday, April 27th during the students lunch period.  Before kicking off the discussion on Michael Beil's Red Blazer Girls, the students enjoyed pizza and homemade brownies.  The students also participated in a raffle at the PJFL and the winner, Bethany S., received a $10 gift certificate to Best Bargain Books!  Young Adult Librarian Colleen Cheshire led the discussion and had students excited about the Authors Unlimited event.  The discussion included favorite characters, the riveting plot, and possibly having a mysterious occurrence happen right here in Port Jefferson. Overall the students enjoyed Michael Beil's novel and couldn't wait to read the second book in the series.
