Coram Man Charged in Attack at Popular Bagel Store Parking Lot: Police

BREAKING: The man who allegedly committed the assault was found hiding in the woods nearby, police said.

CALVERTON, NY — A Corman man has been charged with assaulting a man, 69, in the parking lot outside the popular Bean & Bagel Café in Calverton Friday, police said.

According to Riverhead Town Police, the assault took place at 1:08 p.m.; police responded and found that the attacker had fled on foot.

After a search of the area, police located Philip Puglisi, 23, of Coram, hiding in a wooded area of the nearby Timber Park neighborhood, police said.

Puglisi was identified as the person who committed the assault, placed under arrest, and charged with second degree assault, a felony, police said.

He was taken to Riverhead Police Department, where he was processed; he was later arraigned in Riverhead Justice Court where Justice Lori Hulse remanded him to the custody of the Suffolk County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail, police said.

The victim was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital by Wading River Fire Department for treatment of facial injuries sustained during the assault, police said.
