The final touches are being put on our preparations for this year's Summer Reading Program, Dig into Reading. The department is now populated with denizens of the underground as well as dinosaur bones, and the hallway has been transformed into a cave, complete with bats.
Children from birth to 12 years old are invited to sign up for the program, beginning tomorrow, Saturday June 15. Our kick-off event, David Funn's Dig into Reading Library Show, features books, music, magic and his live rabbit. Call now to register for this family fun event. After the show, you can head up to the Children's Room to sign up for the reading program. Library staff will be available to help you and your child with this year's new feature, on-line registration.
The goal of the Summer Reading Program is to encourage children to read during the long school break, both to prevent skill loss and to foster a love of reading that will last a lifetime. The program is designed to make reading FUN, so that children will want to participate and read more. All the activities and events we have scheduled throughout the summer are also designed with these goals in mind. So check out our programs and Dig into Reading!
