Drunk Driver Strikes Pedestrian, Waits An Hour To Call 911: Police
A drunk man driving a Jeep struck a man who was walking on the shoulder of a Suffolk County road Sunday night, police said.

CORAM, NY – A man was arrested on a DWI charge after he struck a pedestrian with his Jeep and then waited an hour to call 911, Suffolk Police said.
According to police, 47-year-old Robert Slawinski was driving a 2010 Jeep Wrangler south on Old Town Road, near Hyson Way, in Coram when his vehicle struck 48-year-old Anthony Loiodici, who was walking on the shoulder of the roadway at about 10:20 p.m. Slawinski fled the scene, but called 911 about an hour later to report hitting something on Old Town Road.

By then, police had already responded to a 911 call reporting an injured man on the side of the road. Loiodici, of Medford, was transported by a Selden Fire Department ambulance to Stony Brook University Hospital where he's in critical condition. Slawinski and a passenger in the Jeep, Molly Toye, 31, of Oneonta, were not injured.

Slawinski, of Mastic, was arrested and charged with DWI. Slawinski was held overnight at the Sixth Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip Monday.
