Environmental Club Members Go Green

Middle school students raise awareness and money for various environmental causes.

Port Jefferson Middle School Environmental Club members attended the Port Jefferson Village Go Green Festival on Nov. 1 to raise awareness and money for various environmental causes.

During the event, the students sold home-baked goods to raise money for an environmental cause. In the past, the students adopted sea turtles from the Riverhead Foundation.

In addition, students presented their research about the types of pollution found in the wrack line around Port Jefferson Harbor during a recent beach cleanup. They also presented recommendations to the village to help alleviate some of the pollution. An exhibit comparing a healthy wrack line to a polluted one was also part of their research.
