Man Killed in Single-Car Crash in Mount Sinai

The accident occurred Friday evening.

A Miller Place man died after his pickup truck crashed into a guardrail in Mount Sinai on Friday evening.

According to police, Reinhold Schierwagen, 64, was driving a 2002 Ford F-150 east on North Country Road when the truck hit a guardrail and shrubs in front of 228 North Country Road at 6:55 p.m.

Schierwagen was transported via Mount Sinai Fire Department to Stony Brook University Hospital, where he later died from his injuries, police said.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms were impacting Suffolk County at the time of the crash, but police did not indicate if weather was believed to be a factor in the accident.

The investigation is continuing and detectives are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash to contact the Sixth Squad at 631-854-8652.
