
From Port Jefferson School District: Earl L. Vandermeulen High School senior Annalisa Welinder has qualified as a semifinalist in the 64th annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Annalisa’s love of learning and outstanding academic talent extend beyond the advanced courses she takes in school. She is a member of the Academic Team, the Latin Club and Mathletes. She also competes on behalf of the school on both the tennis and track teams.
In addition to her impressive academic accomplishments, Annalisa has attended Julliard’s pre-college division music program since eighth grade to perfect her exceptional violin skills. She also takes an applied linear algebra class through Suffolk County Community College. Reading, graphic design and writing poetry round out her varied interests.

She is among approximately 16,000 high school students nationwide who were awarded the distinction by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. They represent the top 1 percent of students from across the country with the highest scores on the qualifying Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.
Finalists will be named in February and the National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in the spring 2019.
