Long Island Police Duo Save Infant Choking On Candy
The infant was having difficulty breathing when they first arrived, police said.
CORAM, NY — A pair of quick-thinking Suffolk police officers dislodged candy from a choking infant's mouth on Monday, a spokesperson said.
Officers from the 6th Precinct responded to a call of an infant choking at a home on Jefferson Court in Coram at around 2:35 p.m., and upon arrival, they saw the baby was having difficulty breathing, police said.
The officers administered back blows and finger sweeps until the candy was dislodged from the infant's airway, and the baby began breathing normally, according to police. The infant was then taken by Coram Fire Department rescue to Saint Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson for evaluation.
