Port Jeff High Senior Ryan Burke Proves His Math Skills

Earl L. Vandermeulen High School senior Ryan Burke demonstrated his mathematics mastery after participating in two recent math contests.

At the Suffolk Math Tournament, held at Suffolk Community College, Burke competed against a few hundred students and placed fifth in the individual round.

Burke also excelled in the American Math Contest where he scored in the top fifth percent, qualifying him for the American Invitation Mathematics Exam in March. This is the second year he has qualified for the exam.

Burke serves as captain of the Port Jefferson Mathletes team and is a member of the Suffolk Math team, which competes nationally. Burke is also a member of his school’s Science Olympiads and is aptain of the Academic Team.
