Port Jeff Man Plotted To Rob Connecticut Bank: Police

He was also arrested in May for allegedly robbing a Long Island bank at gunpoint.

A Port Jefferson man was arrested after he plotted to rob the a Connecticut bank over the weekend, police said.

Police arrived at a Dime Bank in Norwich around 11:50 a.m. Saturday and found Maximilian Beres, 30, in close proximity to the bank. He was wearing several layers of clothing and was armed with two knives, police said.

Police said Beres's plan was to rob the bank just before closing time.

Beres is charged with criminal attempt at first-degree robbery, sixth-degree larceny, carrying a dangerous weapon and illegal possession of a motor vehicle marker plate.

Beres was arrested by Suffolk Police in May for allegedly robbing a Smithtown bank at gunpoint. The status of that case is unclear.
