Port Jeff Station Couple Seriously Hurt After Being Hit By Car

Accident happened Saturday night in Greenlawn.

A man and woman from Port Jefferson Station were seriously hurt after they were hit by a car while crossing the road following a fair in Greenlawn Saturday night, police said.

The married couple–Joanna Rigas, 80, and Andrew Rigas, 84,–were walking south across Pulaski Road at the intersection of Shrine Place after attending the Greek Orthodox Fair at the Paraskavi Greek Orthodox Church when they were struck by a 2006 Kia Sedona minivan that had been traveling east on Pulaski Road at 10:10 p.m., police said.

The couple was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital, where they are listed in serious condition, police said.

The driver of the Kia, Ralph Serpico, 82, and his wife, Rose Serpico, 79, of Greenlawn, were not injured.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check and the investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone who witnessed this crash to contact the Second Squad at 631-854-8252.
