Port Jeff Student Named 'Inspirational Wrestler of the Year'

Congrats Joey!

From the Port Jefferson School District: Port Jefferson School District’s Earl L. Vandermeulen High School senior Joey Collins was recognized as the Rohan Murphy Inspirational Wrestler of the Year at the Suffolk County Coaches Association awards ceremony on April 18.

The award is presented to the wrestler(s) in Suffolk County that battle through adversity during their high school career.

“We are proud to call Joey one of our own,” Dr. Danielle Turner, the district’s athletic director said. His commitment, character dedication and ability to overcome challenges that stand in the way of success is an inspiration.”

Joey was honored earlier this year by the Port Jefferson Board of Education, along with his twin brother Jack. He was touted for his many successes on the wrestling mat during his high school career.
