
PORT JEFFERSON, NY - From Port Jefferson School District: As a result of their scholastic dedication and performance, 22 Earl L. Vandermeulen High School students in the Port Jefferson School District have been recognized by the College Board as AP Scholars.
The designation was given in recognition of each student’s demonstration of exceptional college-level achievement through their performance on national AP exams. Of the 22 students, five were named AP Scholars, eight earned the recognition of AP Scholar with Honor, nine were named as an AP Scholar with Distinction and two were named National AP Scholars.
To earn a Scholar recognition, students are required to score a 3 or higher on three or more AP exams; to be recognized as a Scholar with Honor, students must earn a 3.25 on all AP exams taken and grades of 3 or higher on four or more of those exams; and for a Scholar with Distinction award, students must receive an average score of 3.5 on all AP exams and grades of 4 or higher on five or more of these exams. The National AP Scholar recognition is for students who receive an average score of at least 4 on all AP exams taken.
