Port Jefferson Students Honor Veterans Day
Spear Elementary School second graders wrote thank-you cards and met with a service member.

Many dressed in red, white and blue, Edna Louise Spear Elementary School second graders took part in a social studies lesson via Google Meet to learn about Veterans Day.

Student Finn Gronenthal’s military mentor, Lt. Col. Travis Toole, met with the students, courtesy of Finn’s mother Erica Gronenthal.
Toole works for Africa command in Germany and served two combat tours with Finn’s father, who died while serving our country when Finn was a baby. He also worked in the Pentagon and the Capitol, jumped out of planes at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne and is a military hero.

The students also created Veterans Day cards to share their thanks and appreciation for the service of our nation’s veterans.
