Port Jefferson Students Welcomed to Middle School

Back to school BBQ held last week.

Incoming sixth graders at Port Jefferson Middle School mingled with friends and teachers while enjoying burgers and hot dogs at the welcome back to school barbecue on August 21 at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School.

The annual event gives students a wonderful introduction to the Port Jefferson School District family, according to Superintendent Dr. Kenneth Bossert. Middle School Principal Antonio Santana presented each of the 100 students with a Hawaiian lei as they arrived. Parent volunteers prepared dinner.

“The barbecue provides students with an opportunity to not only get socially acclimated, but also meet some of their new teachers and find their lockers,” Santana said.
