A Royal Homecoming for Earl L. Vandermeulen High School

Blue skies and a sea of purple were the background for the festive weekend of homecoming activities at Earl L. Vandermeulen High School.

Capping off a week of school-spirited events, the traditional pre-game bonfire on Friday night, and a parade complete with floats from each grade level, was a win for the Port Jeff Royals against Southampton 42-13.

A half-time ceremony took place to celebrate the newest inductees into the school’s Wall of Fame. Margo Garant, Class of 1982; Michael Lee, Class of 1962 and Susan Kretschmer-Leining, Class of 1975, were all recognized for extraordinary achievement.

Garant, recognized for public service, school/community service and career accomplishments, was nominated by Port Jefferson Middle School teacher Monica Consalvo. A center on the 1963 Port Jefferson High School football team was honoree Michael Lee, nominated by Edna Louise Spear Elementary School principal Thomas Meehan. His selected categories of recognition were business, public service, school/community service and military service. Kretschmer-Leining, now a resident of Texas, was nominated in the school/community service category for her numerous altruistic endeavors by board of education trustee Ellen Boehm.
