Travel with the Port Jefferson Free Library

It is always a great time to travel! Let the Library help you plan your trip. We have many resources for travel near and far!

Check out our extensive collection of travel guides. We have everything from the Americas to Australia. The guides are from renowned travel publishers such as DK (Dorling Kindersley), Fodor’s, Frommer’s, Lonely Planet, and more. All you have to do it pick your destination. The travel guides can be found in the lower stacks of the Library. They can be located in the 910s section.

Don’t forget to look for a “Travel Sack”. These bags are full of all kinds of information about a wide variety of attractions in all fifty states, the Canadian provinces, and Europe too! They are updated frequently and might even have some things that regular travel guides don’t like brochures from more obscure attractions, and expanded hotel brochures. They can be found on the mezzanine level on the right side under the Travel DVDs in the section behind the biographies.

Traveling abroad? Learn some key phrases before you go with Mango languages http://www.portjefflibrary.org/language.html. You will need to have your Library card handy when you sign in to create your account. Would you rather learn a language offline? Check out one of our language learning kits with CDs and workbooks you can use! You can find our language collection on the lowest level of the library. The materials are designed to appeal to beginners or those who looking to brush up their skills.

Are you looking to travel a little closer to home? Check out the “Local Information and Travel” rounder (it’s the one closest to the Reading Room). There you will find the train schedules for the LIRR (Port Jefferson, Ronkonkoma, and Citi Field branches), local bus schedules (those that go through Port Jefferson), some Amtrak schedules, and Ferry schedules.
