Whiz Kids: Michael and Thomas Clark

Twins have made their mark at Mount Sinai High School and in the community.

Name: Michael and Thomas Clark, age 18

School: Mount Sinai High School Class of 2014

Accomplishments: Having been on the Principal’s List and the Superintendent’s List throughout high school, Michael was the recipient of the Academic Excellence Medal and graduated with a Regents diploma with advanced distinction and honor. He was a three-sport varsity athlete, throwing the shot put and discus for both the winter and spring track teams and was an outside linebacker and offensive guard for the football team. He was awarded All-Division First Team for football, as well as the Scholar Athlete Award.

Identical twin brother, Thomas, was on the Honor and High Honor Rolls throughout high school and was also a three-sport varsity athlete. He was an outside linebacker and offensive tackle on the football team and threw the shot put and discus for both the winter and spring track teams.

Both young men were Boy Scouts with Miller Place Troop 204. They contributed many years of volunteer service through their involvement with scouting and both attained the rank of Eagle Scout, the highest honor that a scout can achieve. Michael’s Eagle project involved the construction of three bat houses that were placed at Cedar Beach with the goal of encouraging a bat colony, thereby cutting down on the mosquito population naturally. Thomas’ Eagle project involved repairing and replacing the damaged boards and railings on the Cedar Beach nature walk. The wood was damaged due to aging and winter storms.

In addition, Michael and Thomas have volunteered their time working on their high school’s homecoming floats, doing Coastal Steward cleanups of local beaches, Town of Brookhaven cleanups and participated in the Extreme Makeover Home Edition in Saint James.

Thomas is employed at Uncle Giuseppe’s and will be attending the State University of New York at Albany. He will be majoring in Environmental Science with the career goal of working in Environmental Management. Michael is employed at Walgreens and plans to pursue a doctorate of physical therapy degree at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia, where he was awarded a partial scholarship.
