7,300 Pounds Of Shrink Wrap Collected By Town Of North Hempstead
Shrink wrap materials were recycled with the goal of reducing waste and helping the environment.

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — The Town of North Hempstead collected 3.65 tons — or 7,300 pounds — of shrink wrap during April, Councilmember Mariann Dalimonte announced.
The program was hosted throughout the month at Manorhaven Beach Park and was spearheaded by Dalimonte.
"I am absolutely thrilled with the results of North Hempstead’s shrink wrap recycling program," Dalimonte said in a news release. "I am always trying to innovate the ways in which the Town can protect our environment from pollution, and I am glad that our residents were able to find this program useful."

The program allowed boaters and Town of North Hempstead residents to recycle shrink wrap materials, helping to reduce waste and protect the environment by providing a convenient and environmentally friendly way to dispose of them. The town sent five containers of shrink wrap to Westbury Paper Stock Corporation to be recycled.
Shrink wrap material is low density polyethylene and can be pelletized and then reused in the manufacturing of a variety of materials, including lawn edging, plastic lumber, carpet, as well as shrink wrap, according to the township.
