The premiere fundraising event on Long Island, the Auction connects donors, sponsors and participants with a common goal of providing a better life for people in their community. The event has built a tremendous following of more than 700 attendees in the past 16 years.
“What’s great about the Auction is that everyone can find something to bid on,” said Karen Sherman, a committee member and long-time attendee. From silent auction items such as sports memorabilia and jewelry to live auction items like golf foursomes and trips, there is something for everyone.
Before the heated bidding of the Live Auction, the attendees took the time to remember for whom they were raising money. Kenia Nunez, mother of an autistic child, received a standing ovation for her speech about the JCC’s special needs services.
“Each day [my son] is in a program at Sid Jacobson JCC, I see a renewed strength in him,” Nunez said. “I know that after a weekend of spending time with his buddies and adults who care about him, he will be able to go back to school with his head held high.”
