Annual Spooky Walk Invites Screaming Kids

No matter the age, the Spooky Walk brought hundreds of people looking for that Halloween fright factor.

Halloween is just days away, and what better way to celebrate than to let out a shriek and a scream at the annual Spooky Walk at Clark Gardens?

Hundreds of people swarmed in on Friday night. Parking was almost impossible to find. People stood on a line that went down the driveway and over and down the sidewalk.

Inside, kids younger than 17-years-old were accompanied by adults and waited on the looped line to enter “Zombie Town.”

Supervisor Jon Kaiman addressed the spectators and hoped they were having a good time. Town Clerk Leslie Gross also asked the crowd to give their best scared screams, perhaps as practice before they entered the scary forest of the unknown.

While people waited, the emcee played music ranging from "Cotton Eye Joe" to the "Ghostbusters" theme song. There was also a dance contest, and the winners were rewarded with candy. The emcee, surprised by how many boys were busting out their moves, described their participation as “boy power.”

Before — or after — getting the shrieks knocked out of them, families warmed up with some hot steaks or zeppoles, and even in 44 degree weather an ice cream truck was present.

For some of the kids, Spooky Walk was an annual tradition, and they seemed un-phased by the  production. Yet a few young girls were on the verge of tears before entering the spooky walk and opted to move off of the line.

Whether going into Spooky Walk or not, kids made their own fun outside, screaming and running around with all the excitement Halloween has to offer.

Note: Due to inclement weather, Spooky Walk is cancelled for Saturday. The event has been rescheduled for Sunday from 6-9 p.m.For younger children, there is a Not So Spooky Walk from noon to 4 p.m.
