Baxter's Pond End of Winter Gala & Auction
Celebrate the coming spring at the Baxter's Pond Foundation Gala, Saturday, March 4.
Season After Season, Baxter’s Pond Foundation Cares.
The Baxter’s Pond Foundation will celebrate 13 years as stewards of Baxter’s Pond, at the Barbara Johnson Park & Preserve, at its End of Winter Gala on March 4. Friends and neighbors will have the opportunity to look back at the pond’s history, as well as look forward toward upcoming restoration projects for the maintenance and beautification of the Nassau County-owned pond.
Over the years, the BPF and its volunteers have planted thousands of bulbs, funded regular maintenance of the area, conducted clean ups of everything from litter to logs, hosted bird watching and environmental education sessions, sponsored projects and events, and advocated for infrastructure improvements—as well as rescued the occasional gosling that’s tipped over the waterfall.
The pond is a favorite Port Washington destination: season by season, we all watch the ducklings grow, the birds migrate in and then back out, wild (and not so wild) flowers bloom, and dramatic sunsets reflected in the water. The Baxter’s Pond Foundation also looks forward to continued partnership with Nassau County. Together they are now working to improve the health and beauty of park trees, and plant new ones where needed.

This year’s proceeds from the Gala will enable restoration of the natural plantings along the pond’s shore and expansion of the fern gardens along the paths.
Be part of the celebration by attending the upcoming End of Winter Gala on Saturday, March 4. The Gala and Auction will be at the Manhasset Bay Yacht Club from 7 – 11 pm. To learn more, contact The Baxter’s Pond Foundation at friends@baxterspond.org.
