Calling All Artists: The Art Guild Portrait Contest

The Art Guild is inviting all artists to enter "About Face – The Portrait, A Juried Competition and Exhibition." Here's the information.

The Art Guild: The Art Guild invites all artists to enter “About Face – The Portrait, A Juried Competition and Exhibition. The portrait is a time honored tradition throughout the ages - capturing the spirit, personality and emotion of a person.

All artists, 18 years and older (high school students ages 14-18 years may enter in the student category), are invited to submit up to three works for consideration. All styles from abstract to realism are welcome. Mediums may include but not limited to acrylic, oil, watercolor, pastel, photography, mixed media, collage, encaustic, etching/prints, or sculpture (with pedestal). (Please no copies, or reproductions.) All works must be original and have been created in the last five years. Artists may view the competition’s full criteria, register, or download the prospectus at TheArtGuild.org. The deadline for submissions is Monday, August 5, 2019. The exhibit will be on view from August 31 – September 29, 2019. Gallery hours are Saturdays and Sundays from 1:00 – 5:00 pm or weekday hours by appointment. An Artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony, open to the public, will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2019 from 3:00-5:00 pm.

The juror-of-awards for this exhibit is Robert Silverman. Mr. Silverman’s innovative techniques have been featured in American Artist Workshop Magazine and The Art of the Portrait, the official publication of the Portrait Society of America. His work has appeared at Edward Hopper House, the Lockwood-Mathews Museum, National Arts Club and Salmagundi Club. Classes for children and adults run six-days a week. Children’s week-long summer workshops for ages 5-7 and 8-12 and fall classes are now registering. Fall adult classes in watercolor, oil painting, life drawing, and drawing are now registering (and more are being added). Adult workshops for 2019 include Aug 3 - 4: Silkscreen Monotype Workshop, combining screen printing with drawing and painting techniques with Stephanie Navon-Jacobson, Aug 24 - 25: Bending Reality: Color Theory Workshop with artist and author, Patti Mollica, and Sept 13 - 15: Alla Prima Plein Air Painting Workshop with Robert Simone. Many more exciting workshops are on the website and more are being added.
